I've always been scared of being in any relationship with a man because of how our dad treated my mother when we were growing up. I have a guy that I currently like and he likes me too, however, just the mere thought that he could later change and treat me like the way dad treated my mother,, gets me scared to accept the relationship. I've failed to maintain many relationships because of the fear within me.

Leaving was the bravest thing I have done

For a long time I believed that if I just tried harder, loved better, stayed quieter, things at home would get better. They didn't. I slowly stopped recognising myself. A friend helped me make a plan, and one morning I left with a bag and my documents. I was terrified. I'm not going to pretend the months after were easy. But today I laugh loudly again. I make my own choices. I'm rebuilding slowly, with support. If you are where I was, please know that help exists, and you deserve to feel safe at home.

Recovery

Two years sober and finally honest

I used alcohol to numb things I didn't have words for. Most people around me had no idea how bad it was, because I was good at looking fine. Getting sober was hard, but the hardest part was being honest — first with myself, then with my family. I expected judgement. Mostly I got relief, because they had been worried for a long time. Two years in, I'm not "fixed", but I'm present. I remember my evenings. I show up for people. If you're thinking about taking the first step, reach out to someone today. You don't have to do it all at once.

Depression

Getting out of bed was my whole victory

There was a season when getting out of bed was the only thing I accomplished in a day. I felt ashamed of that, like everyone else was living and I was just existing. My therapist asked me to write down one small thing I did each day — showered, drank water, opened the curtains. At first the list looked pathetic to me. Months later, reading it back, I could see someone who kept fighting even when everything felt grey. If today your only win is that you're still here: that counts. It really does.

Years of Generational Healing

Why Unburden Today

A generation finally speaking about what was once hidden.

Many people experience emotional pain, trauma, grief, loneliness, and other life challenges without having a safe space to talk about them. When these experiences remain unspoken, they affect individuals, families, and communities, contributing to cycles of pain.

Limited understanding of mental health can make these struggles harder to address. We exist to create a platform where difficult experiences can be expressed and discussed with compassion, dignity, and hope.
